Grewal farm

10 Acre pear and guava tree farm

Welcome to our farm site

We are a family-run fruit tree farm operating since 1991 and located in Punjab, India. The farm is run by Mr. J. Singh Grewal and his family.

We grow a variety of fruits on our farm; from lemons (nimbu), guava (amrood), pears (nashpati), along with some pomegranate (anar) and mango (amb).

Around 75% of the fruit trees found in our farm are pear trees. The pears trees were first planted in around 1991 and many of those initially planted are still found on the farm and producing large yields of fruit.

The type of pear tree planted was recommended by the Punjab Agricultural University (Ludhiana) (“PAU”). The lifespan of these pear trees is typically 100 years.

As recommended by the PAU the trees are spaced at around 6m x 6m to allow for them to fully mature, so that the tree can grow by around 2-3 metres from its trunk in all directions, and also to maintain proper spacing to ensure the fruit can be picked in an effective way.

Around 20% of the fruit trees found in our farm are amrood (guava). The amrood trees were introduced to the farm in the last 10 years as a way to diversify the type of fruit produced. Additionally the amrood fruit provides 2 crops each year; a summer and a winter crop.

Our fruit is typically sold at the mandi (market) but local buyers also come and pick their own fruit and purchase it directly from the farm.
